About Compass Home Group
Compass Home Group is a licensed general contractor based in Hyannis, Massachusetts, specializing in kitchen remodeling. We also build bathrooms, decks, siding, masonry and full homes for people who live on Cape Cod. The company is owned and run by Ivan Junior and Leandro, who work on job sites alongside their family. It holds a 5.0 star rating on Google. Compass Home Group is the construction side of a family business that has been finishing Cape Cod homes since 2009.
The Origin
The brothers father started painting professionally in 1998. The family came to the United States in 2009, and painting Cape Cod homes was the first work they did here. His father and his brother took the early jobs. Ivan came into the business, and eventually the three of them were running it together. That company is Compass Painting, and it employs eleven people today.
The construction work started because customers asked for it. A homeowner would call for interior painting, then ask if the crew could handle the cabinets. Then the tile. Then the layout of the room itself. Kitchen and bathroom remodeling happened alongside the paint work, on the same jobs, for the same families. Over the last three years that side of the business grew big enough to stand on its own.
Compass Home Group is that business, made official. Ivan holds a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License, number CS122588. The company is registered as a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor, number 217100. Kitchens, bathrooms, decks, siding and masonry run under Compass Home Group. Painting and cabinet refinishing run under Compass Painting, a separate company with its own registration, its own crew and its own books. Two companies, one family.
What Drives the Company
The first rule here is that we do not sell a homeowner work the house does not need. If the cabinet boxes are solid and the layout already works, the kitchen does not need a remodel. It needs the cabinets refinished, and that is a job for Compass Painting, not for us. We say that out loud even when the smaller job pays us less.
The second rule is that we open the wall before we promise anything. Cape Cod bathrooms hide water damage. Cape Cod kitchens hide framing that was never right to begin with. A price given before anyone looks behind the tile is a guess, and guesses turn into change orders.
The third is that the people who start the job finish the job. Ivan, his brother and their father are on site. The crew does not rotate out halfway through, and the homeowner is not left chasing four different subcontractors for one answer.
The Shop
Compass Home Group works out of 47-4 Warehouse Rd in Hyannis, off Independence Drive in the industrial park behind Route 132. Inside is a 3,600 square foot shop built for one purpose: spraying and finishing cabinet doors, boxes and millwork in a controlled environment.
Very few contractors on Cape Cod are set up for that. Most cabinet work here gets finished right in the customer's kitchen, with plastic sheeting on the floor, dust settling into the coat and a finish that will not survive a family. We take the doors, the millwork and the trim to the shop, spray them properly, and bring them back. The family built that shop because the painting business demanded it. The construction business inherited it.
That is why a Compass kitchen can go two directions. If the layout already works and the boxes are sound, the honest answer is refinishing, and that work is handled by Compass Painting, which sprays existing cabinets in the same shop. If the kitchen has to be torn out and rebuilt, that is kitchen remodeling on Cape Cod, and that is us. The homeowner gets the honest version of that choice, not the version that pays us more.
How We Work
Every project starts with a free consultation at the house. We walk the space, look at what is behind the surfaces, and talk about what the budget actually buys. Nobody signs anything that day.
What comes back is a written scope and a written schedule. We pull the permits ourselves, which matters more than most homeowners realize. If you pull your own building permit in Massachusetts, you give up your eligibility for the state Guaranty Fund. Hiring a registered Home Improvement Contractor who pulls the permit keeps you protected for up to $25,000 on an unpaid judgment.
There is one point of contact for the whole job, and that is Ivan. Every project carries a written one year workmanship warranty. If something we installed fails, we come back.
Building on Cape Cod
Salt air is not a detail here, it is the whole design problem. Standard fasteners rust out on a deck within a few winters, so coastal work gets stainless and hot dip galvanized hardware. Cedar goes silver, siding traps moisture when the water barrier behind it was never installed correctly, and a hard nor'easter finds every mistake anyone made in the last twenty years. Sandy Cape soil moves too, which is why a retaining wall, a patio or a driveway that settled did not settle because of the stone. It settled because of the base.
The rules are their own layer. North of Route 6, from Sandwich through Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, Brewster and Orleans, exterior work visible from the road goes through the Old King's Highway historic district committee and needs a Certificate of Appropriateness. Most of the Cape runs on septic, which means Title 5 governs what you can and cannot add. A new bathroom does not increase design flow. A new bedroom does, at 110 gallons per day. A contractor who does not know that difference will either scare a homeowner out of a project they could have had, or walk them into a septic upgrade they never budgeted for.
We work across the Cape, from Osterville and Centerville out to Yarmouth Port, Dennis, Mashpee and Falmouth. A large share of the homes here belong to owners who are not on the Cape year round and are managing a project from somewhere else. That changes how we communicate. Photos, updates and straight answers, not silence between site visits.
